What Makes This Dataset Different
Troubleshooting content online is almost always a single symptom mapped to a single guessed cause. This dataset instead structures 60 symptoms with their commonly associated causes, general considerations, and an explicit risk level — so a chatbot, checklist tool, or contractor triage system can distinguish "check the photocell" from "this needs a licensed electrician" without guessing.
It is deliberately built with no step-by-step repair instructions anywhere — every record’s best-practice note says "consider checking X" or "consider a licensed electrician," never a repair procedure. See the What This Dataset Is Not section for the full safety framing.

Key Symptom Categories Covered in This Dataset
The dataset spans 60 topics; these are the recurring symptom categories most records fall under.
Transformer Symptoms
Transformer not working, buzzing, tripping breakers, and overheating — the single largest symptom category in the dataset. See Transformer Troubleshooting Overview.
Timer & Photocell Malfunctions
Common failure patterns for dusk-to-dawn photocells and scheduling timers. See Photocell Not Working.
High-Risk / Safety-Relevant Symptoms
5 of the 60 records are flagged High risk — repeated GFCI or breaker trips, grounding concerns, and suspected short circuits — and consistently point toward a licensed electrician rather than a DIY fix. See Keeps Tripping GFCI.
What This Dataset Is Not
To set accurate expectations before you buy:
- It does NOT contain step-by-step repair instructions for any symptom.
- It is not a substitute for a licensed electrician, especially for the 5 records flagged High risk.
- It does not diagnose your specific installation — it organizes symptom categories and general considerations.
- Risk levels are general categorizations, not a guarantee of your specific situation’s severity.
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is in the Diagnostic Tree Dataset?
60 structured records organizing landscape lighting symptoms by category — transformer issues, timer/photocell malfunctions, flickering, moisture failures — with risk levels flagged, delivered as CSV and JSON.
Does this tell me how to fix my specific problem?
No. This dataset organizes symptom categories and general considerations. It deliberately does not contain step-by-step repair instructions, particularly for anything involving line-voltage wiring, breakers, or GFCI devices.
What does the risk_level field mean?
A general Low/Medium/High categorization of how safety-relevant a symptom commonly is. High is reserved for symptoms like repeated breaker trips, GFCI trips, grounding concerns, and suspected short circuits — these consistently point toward a licensed electrician.
Can I see sample data before buying?
Yes — the source-index table, live schema preview, and free sample CSV are all on this page, no purchase required for the sample.
